Description

Types of algae in swimming pools

Algae can reproduce in swimming pools for different reasons: very hot water, water with an unadjusted pH, few hours of filtration? So to avoid the appearance of algae it is only necessary to carry out a good maintenance of the water of the swimming pool and to use preventive algaecide products.

It is easier to prevent the appearance of algae than to eliminate them, so it is very important to use these preventive products.

Types of algae in swimming pools

  • Green algae: the most common and consume a large amount of chlorine.
  • Yellow algae: also called mustard algae, they grow in the dark areas of the pool.
  • Brown or orange algae: may indicate the presence of metals and SOS Manchas should be applied.
  • Lilac algae: may indicate the presence of copper in the pool water, so Copper Out should be applied.
  • Black algae: the most difficult to remove so it is important to use penetrating products such as Algiblack.

The Algiblack product is perfect for removing black algae and bacteria from the pool. Discover the steps to eliminate them and enjoy your pool.

Eliminate black algae

  1. Check pH levels and regulate to 7.2-7.6
  2. Check total chlorine level to 0,5 -1,5 ppm
  3. Test phosphate level with Insta-Test and if less than 100 ppb apply Phos Out
  4. Brush area where algae is present
  5. Shock treatment: add 1.5 L/100m³ of water
  6. Maintenance treatment: 0.3 L/100n³ of water once a week.
  7. In water temperatures below 15ºC add 0.15L/100m³ as weekly maintenance.
  8. Leave the equipment in operation and brush the walls again after 24 hours.
