Pool water alkalinity
The alkalinity is an important parameter to analyze since it indicates the capacity of the water to neutralize acids and stabilize the pH. The alkalinity is linked to the pH, if we have the pH values controlled it will be easier to maintain the optimum alkalinity values.
The optimum alkalinity value is between 120-150 ppm. Below 100 ppm is considered low alkalinity and above 175 ppm is considered high alkalinity.
An alkalinity mismatch can result in:
- Mismatched pH levels.
- Turbidity in the water
- Scaling on the pool walls and bottom
- Excessive consumption of disinfectant
If we have a low alkalinity we will use the product Alka+ and if we have a high alkalinity we will apply the product Low TA.
Alkalinity reducer Baja TA
Baja TA is a Piscimar product that is applied when we have a high alkalinity and therefore above 175 ppm, it is characterized by:
- Dry granulated acidic product
- Highly soluble and non dusty
- Easy to apply and leaves no residue
- It acts as an effective alkalinity corrector.
- Maintains active chlorine
- Clarifies the water
Lowering pool alkalinity
- Steps to follow to lower the alkalinity level:
- Test the alkalinity level with test strips.
- If the alkalinity is higher than 175 ppm add 25 gr/m³ of BAJA TA for every 10 ppm you want to reduce.
- Once the dose to be added has been calculated, divide it into 3 parts and add each part every 6-8 hours. In this way the alkalinity will be lowered but not the pH.
- Distribute the product throughout the pool, with the filter in operation and let it filter for at least 1 hour.
NOTE: It is convenient to add BAJA TA to the pool at a different time than the disinfection treatment to be applied.
